Health, Fire and SafetyContact Ron ZavarellaWitches Woods Tax District - Safety Rules and Regulations1. All State of Connecticut boating and fishing laws will be enforced. 2. No boats over 18 feet in length will be allowed on the lake. Jet skis are prohibited from the lake. 3. No person shall operate a boat having a motor or engine of more than seventy (70) horsepower. This shall not apply to any boat having an inboard motor in excess of seventy (70) horsepower which has been operated on the lake prior to the adoption of this section. Any person violating these provisions shall be fined not more than $100.00 by the Department of Environmental Protection of the State of Connecticut. 4. Boat speed on the lake will be restricted to a maximum of 25 MPH at any time. In addition, no person shall operate a powerboat in excess of five (5) MPH between the hours of one-half hour before sunset and 9:00AM on Monday through Friday; and one-half hour before sunset and (a) 9:00 a.m. on the following morning in the case of weekdays, or (b) 12:00 noon on the following day in the case of Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays. Any person violating these provisions shall be fined not more than $100.00 by the Department of Environmental Protection of the State of Connecticut. 5. No hard-hull boat or boat with motor will be allowed on the lake unless the boat is registered with the District. The District shall issue an identification sticker that will be placed on the upper left-hand corner of the transom. A registration fee of five dollars ($5.00) will be changed for each registration. 6. All powerboats must maintain a distance of 100 feet from the shore whenever possible. Boat shall not infringe on the swimming areas on the common or private beaches. 7. All powerboats must proceed in a counter-clockwise direction whenever possible. 8. No more than one (1) skier may be towed behind a boat. There must be a spotter in addition to the driver of the boat. 9. All guest boats must have a permit in order to operate on the lake. Permits are issued by the Safety Officer upon request be the property owner. The length of time for the permit will be determined by the Safety Officer. Ron Zavarella is the Safety Officer. 10. No rafts shall be allowed more than 75 feet from the shore. 11. In order to keep outsiders from using the Lake property, individuals may be asked to identify themselves as Lake Property owners. 12. The maximum speed for all motor vehicles on Lake roads is 15 MPH. 13. No unregistered motor vehicles are allowed on Lake roads. This includes motorcycles and all terrain vehicles (ATV). No more than two unregistered vehicles may be stored on Lake property owner's property. 14. Registered motor vehicles may be driven only by licensed drivers or by drivers with learning permits. 15. All property owners must remove brush from their property within 10 feet of the traveled way. |
